About Us

HSBC takes in surrenders and strays from Burnett County. Dogs that have been available for adoption for several weeks with no interest shown in adopting them are transported to another location.

HSBC is a member of Wisconsin Federated, Wisconsin Dog Rescue, HSUS and ASPCA. We adhere to a strict code of ethics for shelters. Our staff of volunteers are professionally trained in animal health, temperament testing, and shelter management.

  • Please contact us if you are thinking of surrending your pet to HSBC
  • Contact the sheriff's department with any animal cruelty complaints

  • Although we have similar aspirations of helping the animals of Burnett County, we aren't affiliated with another group in the area called Lost, Found and Fostered

Our Policy Regarding Euthanasia
There is much confusion over the term "NO KILL". In the profession of animal sheltering the term no kill has been replaced with the term "LIMITED ENTRY". Groups professing to be no kill normally will not accept an animal they know they can not place due to health, temperament or other reasons. HSBC accepts all stray dogs brought to us. We never put an animal down to create space in the shelter nor do we place a time limit on the stay of an animal. If an animal is potentially dangerous to humans and other animals, or if it is ill and suffering and beyond help, we euthanize. To do otherwise would be inhumane.
